For I am not Ashamed of the Gospel of God

Romans 1:15-16   So, for my part, I am ready to announce the gospel to you also who are in Rome.  For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one who believes, both to Jew first and to Greek.

Acts 28:30-31 And he remained two whole years in his own rented dwelling and welcomed all those who came to him, Proclaiming the kingdom of God and teaching the things concerning the Lord Jesus Christ with all boldness, unhindered.

When it comes to the gospel I thank the Lord for Romans 1:15-16 and Acts 28:30-31 amongst others.  The Apostle Paul’s testimony was that he was not ashamed of the gospel for it is the power of God unto salvation.  What an awesome verse!  But then sometimes there still remains a certain amount of shame to speak of Lord to others?!? Our experience does not seem to match that of Paul.  Well, don’t be discouraged.  Paul used to be a top persecutor and opposer to the church.  If God can transform Paul then he certainly can do the same in us!  Secondly the book of Acts concludes with a great word, UNHINDERED.    He was proclaiming, teaching with all boldness unhindered.  That meant the Lord had a free way on earth through him to do whatever he wanted.  What a pattern!  Pray that the Lord could have a way in you unhindered.  With no barriers between you and him.  Praise the Lord!

Prayer and the Ministry of the Word

Acts 6:1-4   And in these days, as the disciples were multiplying in number, a murmuring of the Hellenists against the Hebrews occurred, because their widows were being overlooked in the daily dispensing.

And the twelve called the multitude of the disciples to them and said, It is not fitting for us to forsake the word of God and serve tables.

But brothers, look for seven well-attested men from among you, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we will appoint over this need.

But we will continue steadfastly in prayer and in the ministry of the word.

I’ve been impressed with the importance of prayer in relation to so many things.  And here in Acts chapter 6 we see what the early disciples had practiced.  They were first a praying people.  They just didn’t go out and do things randomly without praying first.  Second they were given to the ministry of the word!  How awesome!  But these two go together.  They are inseparable.  Don’t divorce yourself from prayer!  How many people are bold to speak many things in the name of God.  But how much prayer is there before God?  This is the real test.  This is a principle in the bible.  Another sidebar is that they were not alone they were a group.  There is something to be said for praying with others in twos or threes or more.  When we pray together there is more firepower (Matthew 18:19-20).  Their prayer afforded them the divine strength and power needed for the ministry of the word.  So their speaking had impact and surely was the Lord’s speaking.  They were truly the Lord’s continuation on the earth.

The Author of Life

Acts 3:13  The God of Abraham and Isaac and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified His Servant Jesus, whom you delivered up and denied in the presence of Pilate, when he had decided to release Him.

14 But you denied the holy and righteous One and asked that a man who was a murderer be granted to you;

15 And the Author of life you killed, whom God has raised from the dead, of which we are witnesses.

The Apostle Peter in speaking the rich gospel of Christ to the Jews spoke of him being the Author of Life.  I have been enjoying this title of the Lord all week.  Wow, He is the very Author of life.  That word means the originator  author, origin or chief captain.  The Jews had the Author of life crucified yet God raised him from the dead!  How awesome is that!

Who is Christ?

Colossians 2:8-9  Beware that no one carries you off as spoil through his philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the elements of the world, and not according to Christ; For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily,

Colossians 1:19  For in Him all the fullness was pleased to dwell

Anyone ever wonder who Christ is?  Surely the world is full of inquiring minds. I still ask myself this question, Who is he?  If you’ve ever been to a big city you realize that it takes time to do some sightseeing.  You can’t see everything in one day.  It is the same with the Lord.  We need to go on a sightseeing tour to discover all the aspects of our wonderful Christ!  First he is the embodiment of the Triune God.   That simply means that in his being he embodies God the Father, Son, and Spirit.  God dwells in him bodily.  This refers to his incarnation.  God now dwells within a human being, Christ.  So when you see Christ you see the Triune God.  When you receive Christ you receive the whole Triune God!  Wow.

How is God revealed?

Matthew 11:27   All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one fully knows the Son except the Father; neither does anyone fully know the Father except the Son and him to whom the Son wills to reveal Him.

Matthew 16:16-17   And Simon Peter answered and said, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.  And Jesus answered and said to him, Blessed are you, Simon Barjona, because flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in the heavens.

Most people would agree that God is mysterious.  Yet he doesn’t want to remain a mystery to us.  He wants to be made known.  But how would you suppose that God is made known?  Well, the answer is quite simple.  He reveals himself.  The answer is simple yet profound.  Why?  Because our God is Triune!  That means he is three and one at the same time (search earlier posts or tune in for more details).   He is the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.  You cannot know the Son of God unless the Father reveals him to you.  neither can you know the Father unless the Son reveals him to you.  Awesome huh?  Awesome indeed!  Tune in for more to come….

Looking Away unto Jesus

Hebrews 12:1 Therefore let us also, having so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, put away every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us and run with endurance the race which is set before us,

12:2 Looking away unto Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down on the right hand of the throne of God.

Thank the Lord for a new day to look away unto Jesus.  The author and perfecter of our faith.  I always am helped by this verse.  Many unbelievers as well as Christians look to themselves to be everything.  And when they fail or come up short then they are very discouraged wanting to throw in the towel on the Christian life.  Well, I have the gospel here for you this morning!  LOOK AWAY UNTO JESUS!  He is much better looking.  He is the most attractive person in the universe.  Ask the Lord to draw you to him.

Believing unto Righteousness

Romans 10:4 For Christ is the end of the law unto righteousness to everyone who believes.

9 That if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;

10 For with the heart there is believing unto righteousness, and with the mouth there is confession unto salvation.

Romans 4:3 For what does the Scripture say? “And Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him as righteousness.”

Genesis 15:6 And he believed Jehovah, and He accounted it to him as righteousness.

*I Apologize to everyone for not posting in a while.  We had a death in the family last week and had to take care of some things.

Where would we be without Romans chapter 10?  The christian life would be quite different.  But thank God for this chapter in the bible!  In the old testament in order to be right with God you had to follow or keep the ten commandments.  If you did so you were righteous.  However in the New Testament faith in Christ is the requirement to be right with God.  That’s why Romans 10 tells us that Christ is the end of the law unto righteousness to everyone who believes.  Praise the lord for Christ!
